Aveley Heritage Sheep Ranch

History & Origins

Aveley Heritage Sheep Ranch was founded in 1906 by Theodore “Tam” Moilliet when he homesteaded in the North Thompson Valley. The first sheep were introduced in 1913, establishing a multi-generational sheep ranch.

Multi-Generational Family Operation

Five generations of Moilliets have managed the ranch: Tam, his son John, then Jack, followed by Ian and Valerie, and now Joseph and Cadence.

Ranch Operations & Stewardship

The ranch maintains a closed flock focusing on Corriedale and Corriedale-Suffolk sheep, known for their hardiness, early maturity, longevity, and fine wool. The sheep are only pasture-based, grass-fed, are not fed grain or pesticides, and alpine graze in the summer. The ranch supports 1,300 breeding ewes and is strong in wool and lamb production.

Agritourism & Extra Offerings

The ranch offers experiences like heritage B&B cabin stays, lambing tours, hay rides, and self-guided visits, especially around lambing season in April.
